we are hairy shadow productions
This is our feminist, poetic monster movie.
Ella and her strange neighbour Alice live in the forest outside a small, shitty, rural town that no one cares about, where the beer is as bountiful as the jobs are scarce, the ‘rule of thumb’ still applies between a man and his wife, men have started to disappear, and something seems to be living in the forest outside town.

JERKYSYNOPSIS
Living in her tiny home at the edge of the forest Ella does her best to avoid all contact with the town or its residents. She’s created a life entirely of her own design, dependent on no one, hunting small game with her falcons, making jerky for her neighbour Alice, and brewing beer. When Ella turns down the advances of an increasingly aggressive mailman and Alice decides to step in, things escalate and Ella is forced to take a second look at just who her neighbour is.

Making OfWHY WE MADE THIS
When Guillermo Del Toro won an oscar for The Shape of Water he said: "I want to tell you, everyone that is dreaming of a parable of using the genre of fantasy to tell stories about the things that are real in the world today, you can do it. This is a door. Kick it open and come in." This film is about the world of toxic masculinity that we feel is not being looked at. It is the deeply embedded, often culturally defended world of small towns where women are not being seen or heard. We wanted to give them a voice.

FUTUREWHAT'S NEXT
We are very excited to see where JERKY can go on the festival circuit, but we also have visions of a feature version of the film. We feel Alice and Ella's story is far from over and that audiences will want to know what happens 'post Doug'. To that we are currently in development of a feature!
